Are you looking for a role offering flexible working and a fast paced, creative environment?
Are you able to start at short notice?
This role offers ownership of the numbers and influence on project profitability.
Hybrid working brings flexibility, with a four-day week also considered.
About the Opportunity
A high growth and creative small business based outside of Tunbridge Wells is seeking an Interim Finance Manager for a six-month appointment which is likely to be made permanent after the initial 6 months.
Working with a diverse client base, the business combines commercial ambition with a commitment to positive social and environmental impact.
The Role
The Interim Finance Manager will take responsibility for a standalone finance function, working closely with the Managing Director and client services team.
An experienced CFO provides strategic support rather than day-to-day supervision.
The remit combines accurate financial management with practical commercial advice: understanding project costs, protecting margins and helping colleagues make informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain Xero, including day-to-day transaction processing.
- Produce monthly management and board packs, with clear commentary and KPIs. Fathom is the current reporting tool.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, banking relationships, debtors and creditors.
- Oversee sales invoicing, approve weekly payment runs and coordinate outsourced payroll.
- Lead weekly finance forecast meetings and produce live-project status reports.
- Analyse profitability, utilisation, fee recovery and overservicing across clients, projects and services.
- Support project set-up, estimates, supplier purchase orders, pricing and commercial proposals.
- Work with external accountants on accurate, timely tax reporting and statutory accounts.
- Build colleagues’ commercial understanding and improve systems and processes, including exploring appropriate uses of AI.
Essential Skills
- At least three years’ hands-on experience in a similar finance role.
- An accounting qualification or demonstrable qualified-by-experience expertise.
- Strong working knowledge of Xero and advanced Excel skills.
- Commercial and financial planning and analysis skills, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling and margin analysis.
- Confidence balancing independent, day-to-day delivery with commercial advice.
- Clear communication, a collaborative approach and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
Benefits
- Hybrid working, with two home-working days in the full-time pattern.
- 23 days annual leave, an additional Christmas shutdown and a birthday day off.
- Mentoring, training and a personal development plan.
- Private medical insurance and a pension scheme
- A charity support day, Friday bakery lunches and regular staff socials.
- On-site parking.
Why Apply?
The Interim Finance Manager will have the opportunity to influence how work is priced, delivered and measured—not simply report what has already happened.
As the appointment develops, there may also be scope for wider strategic involvement.
