BOOKKEEPER – EAST GRINSTEAD – £35,000 + Hybrid Working

About the role
This full-time Bookkeeper position will focus primarily on supporting sole traders, with some exposure to partnerships and limited companies.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Processing payments, invoices, income and receipts
  • Accurately entering financial data into Xero
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns
  • Identifying and flagging inconsistencies to assist with reconciliations
  • Supporting with year-end accounts preparation
  • Managing bookkeeping duties within a client-facing environment

The successful Bookkeeper will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial records are maintained while working closely with accountants and managers.

What we are looking for
The ideal Bookkeeper will demonstrate:

  • Solid bookkeeping experience, particularly with sole traders
  • Experience with partnerships and limited companies (advantageous but not essential)
  • Working knowledge of Xero (preferred – full training can be provided)
  • Knowledge of Sage and CCH (beneficial but not essential)
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • A professional and personable approach
  • Confidence in a client-facing role
  • Residence within reasonable commuting distance of East Grinstead

As an integral member of the finance team, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the accounts function while contributing to the continued success of the business.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing purchase ledger inboxes
  • Processing supplier invoices, timesheets and credit card transactions
  • Applying correct tax, cost and account codes
  • Reconciling supplier statements and ledgers
  • Preparing payment runs
  • Handling supplier queries
  • Managing retention processes
  • Raising sales invoices
  • Dealing with invoicing queries
  • Maintaining debtor processes
  • Maintaining electronic filing systems
  • Supporting the finance team with ad hoc accounts duties as required

What we are looking for
The successful candidate will be organised, proactive and highly detail-oriented, with previous experience in an accounts administration role.
To be successful, you will have:

  • Ideally looking for someone who has started AAT.
  • Ideally experience in accounts administration, purchase ledger and sales ledger
  • Strong Excel skills (formulas)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a busy environment
  • A positive and professional approach to problem-solving
